Such A Busy Little Bee....errr...Bird...1960s Fashion Fabulousness.

Hello my lovelies! I regret that I've been so scattered with my posting the last couple of months. I really do mean well, but I tend to get tied up or things come up. I have a load of great stuff to do share-zies with today though!

First off, I mentioned a while back that I've decided to do an Etsy shop. I've been collecting some goodies and am pleased to tell you that by the end of next weekend, I will have quite a few listings with more to come later on.

.....and these aren't even the best pieces, just the ones I've gotten photogged for my inventory so far!

I've also been working feverishly on sizing some patterns. So far I've gotten half through a 1964 back-wrap dress...which is still giving me problems with gap in the back. It's still in two pieces and I'm afraid I'm going to have to recut and assemble the bodice...

I have finished one dress though! It was meant to be a toile for another experiment in sizing, but turned out really cute AND fits! Yayy!



I'll also be listing some vintage reproductions eventually....made from vintage fabrics and trimmings and even using vintage thread! I've found a treasure trove of 1960s/'70s awesomeness at one of the charity shops in my town. And would you believe they were having a half price sale? The best thing is that most of what they had was yardage, which is really unsual here in quilt country! Most of the time you only find tiny remnants or squares of '60s fun! Just about all of these are at the very least 1.5 yards...many are WAY more! Here's my haul:



















I also picked up several poly's in solid colours: Dark grey, pale blue, white, lime green....

Magical Mobiles, 1966...

For some reason, I can't imagine why, mobiles have fallen out of fashion. No, munchkins, not the type that ring all the time and have grown attached to our noggins! I'm talking about the type you hang from the ceiling! Most of us had them hanging above our cribs when we were babies. Mine, made by my mother, had loads of different songbirds floating above my head...which is surely why my first word was 'bird' and explains my lifelong obsession with the creatures!
In the late 50s and early 60s, mobiles were all the rage for any well dressed room, not just for the nursery. I've just run across a delicious little article in Better Homes and Gardens from 1966 called 'Mobile Magic For Everyone'. They've some lovely ideas...and some rather silly ones. I can't wait to tackle making one....or three...


Super cool carousel mobile! I LOVE this one, especially the rick rack!!


Weird food mobile...they call it a 'Pop Art Kitchen Mobile'...how very Warhol of them...made from food labels pasted onto wooden shapes.


Cool kitchen utensil theme. I swear I remember my mom or one of my friend's moms having one of these when I was really little!


Even though it's made out of sandwich and toothpicks, which sounds a tish cheesy, I think this is my fave!


Cute little summery fishy-poo's! Perfect for a vintage cabana or tiki bar!!


The possibilities are absolutely endless with these!

Speaking of mobiles, this made me think of my very favourite 'mobile in a motion picture' scene. The lovely Susan Hayward as Helen Lawson singing in 1967's Valley of the Dolls. Unfortunately there is no version of this using Susan's original voice track on youtube, only this Judy Garland overdub of the scene...but nevermind, the mobile is as fab as ever!!!.....

The Uncalled For-Tennessee Garage Psych From '67

The Uncalled For are little known garage/psych band from Manchester, Tennessee. Their only 45 release was 1967's 'Do Like Me', with 'Get Out Of The Way' as the flip. Too bad, because I think they're brill!











These boys are still playing. In fact, they're playing Bonnaroo...which my broke arse doesn't have tickets for...on the 10th of this month. No fair.
